There is something incredibly special about being invited into a family’s story — and it feels even more meaningful when that story takes me somewhere new.
As a Destination Family Photographer, I recently had the honor of photographing the Smith family in Greenville, South Carolina, just outside of The Locust Hill Venue. What unfolded that evening was everything I love about family photography: connection, movement, laughter, and the beautiful chaos that comes with raising little ones.
And the setting? Absolutely stunning.
The session took place on the grounds outside of The Locust Hill Venue — a property that feels both refined and welcoming. The architecture and surrounding greenery offered the perfect blend of structure and softness.
Greenville in the evening light has a warmth to it. The air feels gentler, the sun stretches long across the grass, and everything glows just a little bit differently than it does in Wisconsin.
As a Destination Family Photographer, one of my first priorities is location scouting. Even if I have never photographed at a specific venue before, I arrive early, walk the property, observe the direction of light, and identify pockets of beauty that will photograph best for families.
For the Smith family, we chose open fields with soft grass, tree-lined pathways for depth, and clean architectural elements near the venue for timeless portraits.
The result was a gallery that felt both elevated and natural — polished but never forced.
Mom and Dad arrived with their three beautiful daughters — full of personality, curiosity, and energy.
Photographing families with multiple young children is never about stiff poses or perfection. It is about guiding connection.
We ran.
We twirled.
We let the girls whisper secrets and giggle.
We embraced the in-between moments.
As a Destination Family Photographer, my goal is the same whether I am photographing a family in Wisconsin or South Carolina: to create images that feel honest and joyful.
The Smith girls warmed up quickly. By the end of the session, they weren’t watching the camera — they were simply being themselves. And that’s when the magic happens.
One question I often receive is:
“Is the experience different if we book you for destination services?”
The answer is no — and that is very intentional.
When you hire me as your Destination Family Photographer, you receive the exact same level of care, preparation, and service as my local families.
Before the Smith family ever stepped in front of my camera, they received my curated style guide.
I walk families through:
Choosing a cohesive color palette
Coordinating outfits without matching
Selecting textures that photograph beautifully
Considering how their images will look displayed in their home
For Greenville, we chose soft neutrals with subtle pops of color that complemented the southern greenery. The result felt timeless and effortless — perfect for heirloom artwork later on.
Destination sessions require additional preparation on my end.
I research:
Lighting patterns in the area
Sunset times
Backup location options
Weather trends
I build margin into the timeline so families never feel rushed. Just like my wedding experience has taught me, you cannot create authentic moments if everyone feels hurried.
When I travel as a Destination Family Photographer, I treat your session with the same attention and intentionality as I would in my own backyard.
The experience does not end when the camera goes away.
After their Greenville session, the Smith family was guided through my full product process — just like my local families.
Because these photos deserve more than digital storage.
I walk families through:
Designing custom albums
Creating framed wall art
Selecting heirloom products that fit their home aesthetic
Whether you live in Wisconsin or South Carolina, you deserve tangible artwork that tells your story year after year.
There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting your family in a place that holds significance.
Maybe it’s:
A family vacation destination
A hometown
A place you plan to move
A venue where you were married
For the Smith family, Greenville held personal meaning. Capturing their daughters running freely across southern grass created a memory that will forever be tied to that season of life.
As a Destination Family Photographer, I don’t just show up with a suitcase and a camera. I show up ready to preserve legacy.
One of the biggest benefits of working with an experienced Destination Family Photographer is confidence.
The Smith family didn’t have to worry about:
Where to stand
What to do with their hands
How the light would look
They simply showed up and loved on their girls.
When parents feel relaxed, children follow.
And that calm energy allows for authentic smiles, genuine laughter, and images that feel deeply personal.
Traveling for sessions is something I truly cherish. It allows me to meet families in meaningful places while delivering the same consistent, refined experience I’m known for at home.
If you are considering booking a Destination Family Photographer, here is what you can expect from me:
Intentional planning
A guided styling experience
Calm, confident direction during your session
A seamless product design process
Heirloom artwork delivered to your home
Distance does not change the level of care.
The evening with the Smith family ended just as the sun dipped below the Greenville horizon. The girls were barefoot, their laughter echoing across the field. Mom and Dad stood back for a moment, watching them.
Those are the moments I hold onto.
Because family life moves quickly.
Daughters grow taller.
Personalities shift and blossom.
And one day, these images will feel priceless.
Being invited into that season — especially as a Destination Family Photographer — is something I never take lightly.
If you’re planning a family session outside of Wisconsin and wondering whether I travel, the answer is yes. I would be honored to serve your family wherever your story unfolds. 🤍
