There is something so incredibly special about a proposal — the anticipation, the nerves, the excitement… and when it’s a complete surprise? It becomes a moment that no one will ever forget.
This Surprise Waukesha Proposal was one of those moments.
Chris reached out to me with a plan. A very thoughtful plan. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Lexi, and he wanted the element of total surprise. Not a hint. Not a clue. Just pure, genuine reaction.
And let me tell you… he pulled it off perfectly.
Chris knew that Lexi would be attending a class at Milwaukee Marriott West — a mosaic lamp-making class. Creative, fun, and completely unsuspecting.
It was the perfect cover.
While Lexi was inside focusing on her project, Chris and I coordinated quietly behind the scenes. Timing, positioning, lighting — all of the little details that would allow this Surprise Waukesha Proposal to unfold seamlessly.
The plan?
Chris would enter the class at the end (he even coordinated with the leader of the class)… and completely change her life in that moment.
There is always a split second during surprise proposals where everything hangs in the balance.
The moment before realization.
The moment where confusion turns into understanding.
And then…
Pure emotion.
Chris walked into the class, flowers in his hand and a ring in his pocket. Lexi was still holding onto the calm energy of creating her mosaic lamp — completely unaware of what was about to happen.
And then she saw him.
Chris got down on one knee, and everything changed in an instant.
This is why I love photographing proposals.
Because no matter how much you plan… you can’t script a reaction like this.
Lexi was completely caught off guard — in the best possible way.
Her response?
A quick, joyful, slightly stunned:
“Well, YEAH!”
And then, almost immediately after:
“I cannot believe I am in sweatpants.”
It was real.
It was unfiltered.
It was perfect.
Those are the moments that make a Surprise Waukesha Proposal so meaningful — the genuine reactions, the laughter, the little details that you will talk about for years to come.
Let’s talk about it — because it deserves its own moment.
Lexi was in sweatpants.
And honestly?
She rocked them.
There is something so refreshing about a proposal that isn’t overly staged or perfectly curated. This moment was about love, not perfection.
And the photos reflect that.
Her joy didn’t depend on her outfit.
Her reaction wasn’t filtered through expectations.
She was completely herself — and that is what made the moment so beautiful.
After the initial excitement settled (just a little!), we moved into their “just engaged” portraits.
These are some of my favorite images to capture because:
Chris and Lexi were glowing.
They laughed, hugged, and kept looking at each other like, “Did that really just happen?”
And those sweatpants?
Still iconic.
There is something incredibly meaningful about a Surprise Waukesha Proposal.
It allows for:
When a proposal is truly a surprise, you capture the real beginning of the next chapter.
Not posed.
Not rehearsed.
Just real.
If you are thinking about planning your own Surprise Waukesha Proposal, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Chris did all of this so well. He created a moment that was thoughtful, personal, and completely unforgettable.
As much as I loved capturing this Surprise Waukesha Proposal, the best part is…
This is only the beginning of Chris and Lexi’s story.
Next up?
Their engagement session.
And yes — Lexi will have time to plan her outfit this time 😉.
But if I’m being honest… she already set the bar pretty high.
Because this moment wasn’t about what she was wearing.
It was about how she felt.
This Surprise Waukesha Proposal was everything a proposal should be:
From the mosaic lamp class to the heartfelt “YES,” every part of this story was uniquely them.
And that is what makes moments like this so special.
Chris and Lexi, I am so honored to have captured the beginning of this next chapter for you. I cannot wait to continue telling your story — sweatpants, second outfits, and all.
