There is something truly magical about summer senior sessions—the kind where the sun is warm, the breeze is light, and the location feels like it was made just for you. Briella’s photoshoot at the Delafield Fish Hatchery was exactly that kind of magic. Bright, joyful, creative, and completely her.
As a Milwaukee Senior Photographer and Waukesha Senior Photographer, I’m always on the lookout for locations that feel timeless but still allow personality to shine. The Delafield Fish Hatchery is one of those hidden gems. With its tall trees, winding paths, soft water reflections, and open green spaces, it creates the perfect backdrop for seniors who want something natural, peaceful, and a little bit different.
This session took place on a sunny summer afternoon, the kind of day where everything feels possible—pretty fitting for someone standing right on the edge of graduation and new beginnings.
What made this session truly special wasn’t just the location or the light—it was the intention behind it.
Briella is deeply passionate about art and theater, and she wanted her photos to reflect the parts of her life that have shaped her throughout high school. Instead of trying to fit into a mold or recreate something she saw on Pinterest, she leaned fully into who she is.
She brought along:
Her painting palette, covered in colorful reminders of hours spent creating
A stack of her favorite books, well-loved and full of stories that inspired her
Several playbooks from productions she has performed in, each one representing a chapter of her theater journey
Watching her interact with these items felt natural and authentic—because they weren’t just props, they were pieces of her story. As she flipped through pages, held her palette, and laughed in between moments, the images came to life in a way that simply can’t be staged.
This is why I always tell my seniors: the best sessions happen when you show up as yourself.
The Delafield Fish Hatchery gave us the perfect balance of calm and creativity. The natural surroundings didn’t compete with her personality—they complemented it. The greenery softened the bold colors of her artwork. The quiet paths mirrored the thoughtful moments of reading. The open spaces allowed her confidence to shine, especially when she stepped into her theater-inspired poses.
Senior photos aren’t just about marking the end of high school. They’re about celebrating who you are right now—your passions, your growth, your individuality.
And when those pieces come together? That’s when photos feel meaningful, not forced.
If you’re a high school senior girl starting to think about your own photos, let this be your reminder that your session doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.
You don’t need to fit a trend.
You don’t need to be “good at posing.”
You just need to be you.
Whether you’re into sports, music, theater, art, books, animals, or something totally unique—your senior session should reflect your world.
As a Waukesha Senior Photographer and Milwaukee Senior Photographer, my goal is always to create a space where you feel comfortable, confident, and excited to be yourself. I’ll guide you every step of the way, from outfits to locations to how to move naturally in front of the camera.
Can I bring my own props to my senior session?
Absolutely—yes! In fact, I encourage it. Props that are meaningful to you (like sports gear, instruments, books, art supplies, or theater items) add depth and personality to your photos. The key is choosing items that feel authentic and represent what you love. We’ll use them in a way that feels natural, not staged.
How do I make my session unique to me?
Your session becomes unique through intention. We’ll talk about your interests, your style, your goals after high school, and what you want your photos to say about you. From there, we choose a location, outfits, and elements (like props or movement) that align with who you are. No two seniors are the same—and your photos shouldn’t be either.
This Delafield Fish Hatchery senior session was a beautiful reminder of why I love photographing seniors. There is so much excitement, creativity, and possibility wrapped up in this season of life—and it deserves to be documented in a way that feels honest and personal.
If you’re a high school senior (or a parent of one!) looking for a Milwaukee Senior Photographer or Waukesha Senior Photographer who values storytelling, connection, and individuality, I would love to help you create something unforgettable.
This is your moment. Let’s make it art. 💛
