Wisconsin Wedding Photographer
As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, there are some venues that instantly take your breath away — and The Heidel House on Green Lake is absolutely one of them.
Steve and Maddie’s summer wedding at the Heidel House was timeless, joyful, and deeply personal. From the stunning red brick hotel with its crisp white trim to the sparkling lake views and thoughtful details woven throughout the day, every part of their celebration felt intentional and elegant.
And yes — their beloved cat, Calvin, may have stolen the show.
The Heidel House sits right along the shores of Green Lake, offering that perfect blend of historic charm and breezy summer beauty. The red brick exterior paired with bright white trim creates such a striking, classic backdrop for portraits. It feels elevated yet welcoming — refined but never stuffy.
As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, I am always looking for venues that offer variety in both architecture and natural scenery. The Heidel House delivers both effortlessly.
One moment, we were capturing portraits against the stately brick façade. The next, we were walking along the lake with sailboats drifting quietly in the background. The summer light reflecting off the water created the softest glow around Steve and Maddie — the kind of light photographers dream about.
Maddie chose florals in white with lush greenery, and they were absolutely stunning against the backdrop of the red brick and blue lake. There is something so timeless about a white and green palette — it photographs beautifully in every setting and allows the couple to remain the true focus.
Her bouquet was full and organic, with delicate white blooms layered among textured greenery. The bridesmaids carried coordinating arrangements that complemented the neutral tones of the day without overpowering the scene.
Inside the reception space, the white florals and greenery softened the room and tied everything together. The overall design felt airy, elegant, and perfectly suited for a summer lake wedding in Wisconsin.
Summer weddings in Wisconsin have a magic all their own. The air feels warm but gentle, the sunsets linger, and the lake seems to shimmer just a little brighter.
Steve and Maddie embraced everything that makes a Green Lake wedding special. Guests mingled outdoors with views of the water stretching into the distance. The breeze off the lake kept everyone comfortable and added natural movement to veils, dresses, and table linens.
As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, I always build time into the timeline to take advantage of lakefront sunset portraits — and this evening did not disappoint. The sky turned soft shades of blush and gold, reflecting beautifully on the water behind them.
There is something about that quiet moment after the ceremony, when the nerves have settled and the reality of marriage sinks in. Steve and Maddie walked hand in hand along the shoreline, soaking in the fact that they were finally husband and wife. Those images — calm, glowing, and deeply emotional — are some of my favorites from the day.
Now we need to talk about Calvin.
Steve and Maddie’s cat, Calvin, made his presence known in the most creative (and hilarious) ways. While he wasn’t physically strolling down the aisle, he was absolutely woven into the personality of the celebration.
They created a specialty signature drink in his honor — complete with custom stir sticks featuring his sweet little face. His likeness appeared throughout cocktail hour, and guests couldn’t stop smiling at the thoughtful nod to their beloved pet. His face was even on the back of Steve’s tie!!
As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, I always encourage couples to incorporate meaningful, personal details into their wedding day. Whether it’s a family heirloom, a favorite hobby, or in this case, a very famous cat — those elements are what make a wedding feel uniquely yours.
Calvin’s presence added warmth and personality to the entire reception. It was such a perfect reflection of who Steve and Maddie are: fun, thoughtful, and deeply connected to the things (and pets) they love most.
From the emotional ceremony to the laughter during toasts and the packed dance floor later that evening, this wedding was filled with genuine joy.
Steve looked at Maddie with such admiration throughout the day. Maddie radiated calm confidence and excitement. Their families embraced one another, and the atmosphere felt intimate despite the stunning, grand setting.
One of my favorite parts of being a Wisconsin wedding photographer is witnessing not just the big moments, but the quiet ones in between — the squeeze of a hand under the table, a whispered joke before the first dance, the way parents watch their children step into a new season of life.
Those are the moments that make a wedding unforgettable.
If you are considering a wedding at The Heidel House on Green Lake, here is what makes it so special:
Classic red brick architecture with white trim for timeless portraits
Stunning lakefront views that elevate both ceremony and reception
Gorgeous summer sunsets reflecting off the water
A perfect balance of historic charm and modern amenities
For couples who love the idea of a refined yet relaxed lake wedding, it is truly one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful venues.
At the end of the night, as guests hugged goodbye and the music faded, Steve and Maddie lingered for just a moment longer. The lake was quiet. The air had cooled. And the reality of the day settled in.
They were married.
As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, my heart is always drawn to those final moments — when the celebration pauses and the significance of the commitment takes center stage.
Steve and Maddie’s wedding was elegant, personal, and full of heart. From the white florals and glowing summer light to the iconic red brick of the Heidel House and Calvin’s unforgettable cameo, it was a day that perfectly reflected their story.
And it was an absolute honor to capture it.
